I have decided to start up this here blog. Been thinkin' about it for awhile and just went ahead and friggin did it!
Could I sound anymore country?
Yes.
Anyways, I plan on using this to post things that are on my mind as well as updates on the events and goings on in our little lives. Feel free to share it you want, or not read it at all, or read it and tell me how much you hate it. Its all great! Its what this country is all about, after all!
So, I would like to start things off with a thought on today. Today is the 12th memorial of the 9-11 Terrorist Attacks. When it happened that morning, I was a Junior in High School sitting in my English class when I heard the news that a plan hit some tower in NYC, and then my next class was in the library. I sat down in the front of the TV there just moments after the second plane had hit the South Tower. The rest of the day was passively normal. The remainder of my classes tried to stay as regular and routine as possible which really backfired because none of us remained calm. There was a mix of rumors, fear, and anxiety filling the spaces of the classrooms and hallways. No one learned anything, of that I am sure.
So many things transformed on that day 12 years ago-people, lives, perspectives, countries and governments, mindsets, and possibly more. It was a great thing that so many people came together that day and for the days after no matter their religions and backgrounds. We were all united by the same fears and needed the same healing and comfort. There were Synagogues, Churches,...Mosques all open to whomever needed that time.
What baffles me today is how separated we all seem to be now.
I think that some Christians get a bad rep because of a few bad eggs. I mean the racist violent ones, the ones that spew hate from a pulpit because they think they're above sin themselves, or the ones that jump on boycotting and protest bandwagons. The truth is that not all Christians are like that. I am not like that! I believe that, above all, Christ taught us to love one another no matter what. I also think that the Muslim people have had a similar problem most especially since the attacks 12 years ago. Islam is a religion that teaches peace and because of some bad eggs people are freaking out all over the place. The fact is that the USofA was founded because of a group of people trying to escape religion persecution. It was created with the idea that people could worship how, where, and whoever they wanted without being judged. Why are we freaking out about someone reading out of the Qur'an at his high school graduation? Because its not Christian? Well, that makes sense...(insert eye roll) I realize that this is on the edge of one of those 'can't we all just get along' posts but this is just getting to me. It is important for us to accept differences and educate ourselves so we can understand and respect each other fully. That's my opinion. Let go of all the stereotypes, for cryin out loud!
Can we take a step back for a second? Would it be so horrible if we learned what it was that makes us diverse and make an honest effort open ourselves up to those differences? I am not saying we have to convert to different religions or anything drastic. Just love and respect one another...as we are.
And another thing: if this is not reciprocated to you by someone else, then so what! Be the better person. You'll be rewarded for it later.
